ACCS Interact-L Listserv

The ACCS Interact-L listserv is an opt-in discussion list that has been recently setup to provide an interactive, online channel for connecting members throughout the year; it differs from the ACCS Members listserv which is an “announce only” channel about the annual conference.   The ACCS Interact-L list is for the sole use of academic technology professionals and other personnel at institutions of higher education with an EDU domain email address.

Mission & Goals of ACCS-Interact-L

The ACCS of VA Interact-L listserv was established in 2010 by the ACCS Board in order to provide an inter-institutional forum for discussion and resource sharing about topics related to administration and operations of the IT organization at Virginia colleges and universities. The profile of our ACCS Interact-L community members range from IT executive administrators, directors and managers, librarians, and various instructional or technology support staff.  ACCS-INTERACT-L is for the sole use of academic technology professionals and other personnel at institutions of higher education.

It is an opt-in discussion list for the ACCS-VA community that provides a two-way, interactive channel for professional development, networking, and inter-institutional sharing of best practices and problem-solving; it differs from the ACCS Members listserv which is designed to be a low traffic, one-way, “announce only” channel about the annual conference.  It connects members throughout the year and provides a way for them to share special announcements, to solicit advice/best practices, and to network with their counterparts at other colleges.  We aspire to be a kind of Google for members’ queries related to teaching with technology or the management of information technology at Virginia colleges and universities.  We also have resources to help with problems that go beyond Virginia’s information technology environment.

A primary goal for this community is to foster collegial relationships and a lively community of interest around topics related to information technology in higher education.  Some topics are:

  • faculty/staff/student professional development, training, and leadership
  • IT support services, such as LMS, Virtual Computing Lab, iTunes U, classroom technologies, and student technology assistance resources, residential Wifi etc.
  • emerging technologies (e.g., open educational resources, social media, cloud computing)
  • instructional design and distance education issues
  • best practices in program administration, supervision and management, and project management
  • campus emergency practices, student wage worker retention and training, security

We are currently set up as an open community.  That means, you can receive and send posts to the list forums without moderation. Let us know if you prefer a different community structure. While we aspire to be more of a dialogical community than simply a technology resource distribution list, we are content to provide that service if that is all the membership really wants.  As always, the tone of this online community is that of congenial, scholarly discussion, and courtesy is assumed. We will measure community success by the level of exchanges between members over the academic cycle.  We will create a set of online FAQs, Guidelines, Policies, etc. for the list as it grows larger

ACCS Interact-L is an opt-in only listserv.  You can self-join at the following URL:  http://metis3.gmu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=ACCS-INTERACT-L or by emailing the Community Facilitator below.

You help make the ACCS Interact-L community a vital spot for ACCS membership by sharing your experiences and insights and making suggestions for quality improvements in our IT environments.
